Curry 67, Trinity (Conn.) 62

HARTFORD-Conn. — Senior captain forward Michael Mohrin (Greenwich, Conn.) had a team-high 17 points and four rebounds to lead the Curry College Colonels to a 67-62 comeback win over the Trinity College Bantams in men’s basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity drops to 4-2 with first loss in three games, while the Colonels improve to 2-2.

Curry scored the last 12 points of the game, turning a 62-55 deficit with 3:27 left in the game into a 64-62 lead with just under a minute on the clock after a long three-pointer from the right wing by junior guard Marcus Jones (Roxbury, Mass.), and making three out of four free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory. Curry junior forward Marvin Lamarre (Hyde Park, Mass.) blocked a Bantam three-point try after Jones’ trey, and junior guard Stephen Prescod (Milton, Mass.) sank two free throws with 19 seconds left in the game. Trinity misfired on two more three-point tries with the clock winding down, before a rebound by Lamarre put the game away.

Trinity led, 38-25, at the half, as senior co-captain forward Tyler Rhoten (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored 11 of his game-high 22 points in the first 20 minutes. The Bantams led by as many of 16 points in the second half, but the Colonels cut the deficit to two points twice before finally pulling ahead with its game-ending run.

Trinity shot 28.6 percent from the field in the second half (10-35) and made two three-pointers in 15 attempts (3-19 for the game). Junior guard Patrick Martin (Springfield, Mass.) had 12 points and six assists, and sophomore center Russ Martin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added 11 points, six boards, and three blocks off the bench for the Bantams.
