Greg Cole (Terrytown, NY) led the Colonials with 21 points and 11 rebounds, including the game’s final six points as they improved to 4-0 on the season.
WestConn fell behind, 15-6 early in the first stanza and then again by five points, 68-63 with 2:46 remaining in the game. The Bantams took a five-point lead at that point after they converted a four-point play after Tyler Rhoten (Ridgewood, NJ) buried a long jumper near the top of the arch and John Halas (White Plains, NY) canned two free throws after Brice Assie (Bridgeport, CT) fouled out of the game on a pushing foul away from the action.
From there, the Colonials went on a 8-0 run, including Cole’s six markers, to close out the contest.
Assie, who has been hampered with a heel injury, was forced from the starting line up but finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for WestConn.
Jay Reginatto (Torrington, CT) added 10 points for the winners and now sits five points shy of the coveted 1,000 career point plateau.
Trinity, 5-1, was led by Rhoten’s 24 points and 14 caroms. Robert Traylor III (Dorchester, MA) added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Neither team put on a free-throw shooting clinic tonight as Trinity missed 17 of 29 attempts and WestConn failed to convert on nine of 15 from the charity stripe.
WestConn hosts UMass Boston here on Saturday in the Little East Conference opener for both teams. Tip off is slated for 3 p.m. following the women’s tip at 1 pm.
