Aponte led five scorers in double figures as the Pride improved to 3-1 overall. Senior center Kyle Marian poured in 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting and hauled down 12 rebounds, and junior forward Mike DeCesar ripped down a game-high 15 boards to go along with 12 points. Junior guard Derek Yvon and junior forward Brian Riley added 11 points each. Freshman point guard Anthony Pizzo registered a career-best 10 assists and turned the ball over only once.
SC dominated inside, outrebounding the Colonels, 48-35, including 16-6 on the offensive glass, and outscoring them 48-24 in the paint.
SC jumped all over the Colonels, thanks in part to Aponte’s 12 first-half points. The Pride jumped out to a 17-0 lead just 4:40 in to the game, with Marian scoring eight of his 15 points in the run. SC took its biggest lead of the half, 54-27, after a three-pointer by Aponte with 1:01 left the half.
Sophomore guard Tim Jones led Curry (1-2) with 24 points.
