Rockford 71, Fontbonne 63

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Rockford College’s men’s basketball team notched its third straight win – after suffering its only loss in the season opener – by defeating Fontbonne (Mo.) College, 71-63, in a non-conference tilt. The Regents led wire-to-wire as they improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Griffins fell to 0-5.

Mike Jamerson led a quartet of RC players in double-digit scoring by tossing in 18 points. Jamerson connected on eight-of-13 from the field and was two-for-five from beyond the three point arc. He also had a game-high five steals.

Maurice Smith nailed three baskets from long distance en route to his 16 points. Joel Carter and Tim Peffer each contributed 11 points.

Fontbonne beat the Regents in the battle of the boards by a 44-39 margin, led by nine corralled caroms from Antonio Holland, as it put in a total of 18 second-chance points. Seneca Evans’ six rebounds led Rockford.

The Griffins’ offense was sparked by 13 points from David Carreno. Marquis Blair and Matt McCarthy each tallied 10 points in the losing effort.
