Wentworth 62, MIT 36

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Wentworth Institute of Technology’s tandem of Cheyenne Noble and Emily Cring was too much to handle as they both posted double-doubles in the Leopards’ 62-36 victory over MIT on Tuesday night. The Engineers fall to 2-2 on the year while Wentworth improves to 3-0 for the first time in the program's history.

Karen Kinnaman put MIT on the board by scoring a fast-break lay-up off the opening tip. The Leopards responded with baskets from Whitney Alvarez and Mindy Thomas. Tech then scored six unanswered points, taking its largest lead of the game (8-4). Wentworth countered with a 7-2 spurt, taking the lead for good on a jumper by Cheyenne Noble in the paint with 11:03 remaining in the half. MIT stayed close during the next six minutes, trailing only by five (19-15), however, the Leopards made a final push to close the half with a 29-16 advantage.

After scoring a pair of baskets to open the second frame, the Engineers were held scoreless for the next five minutes as Wentworth extended its lead to 36-20. The Leopards’ defense became impenetrable with MIT tallying a majority of its points from the free-throw line.

Christa Margossian finished with a team-high nine points on 7-of-9 shooting from the charity stripe. Michal Ruchelsman tallied eight points while Karen Kinnaman and Jasmin Moghbeli collected six rebounds each. Kinnaman also contributed seven points and two steals.

Cheyenne Noble totaled a game-high 26 points and added 13 rebounds and two blocks for Wentworth. Emily Cring had 15 points, 15 rebounds, and three steals.
