The Bethany men’s basketball team scored its most points in the Aaron Huffman era in a 117-69 romp over Ohio University-Eastern Tuesday night at the Wendy’s Classic at Wheeling Jesuit University. Six Bison reached double-digits in scoring, led by sophomore guard Jim Deep’s (Aliquippa, Pa.) career-high 26 points. Bethany improves to 3-2 this season with the win.
Bethany shot 52.2-percent (47-of-90) from the field, including 51.6-precent (16-of-31) from three-point line. It was the third time in five games this season that Bethany has shot at least 50-percent from the floor.
Deep led the long-range barrage by going 5-of-9 from the arc, while guard Brandon Duncan (New Salem, Pa.) and forward Matt Drahos (Wheeling, W.Va.) each made three triples. Drahos finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Mike Drahos (Wheeling, W.Va.) accumulated 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. The other double-digit scorers included Duncan (11), junior guard Scott Mezyk (Johnstown, Pa.) (10) and sophomore forward James Wallace (Bellaire, Ohio) (10). Freshman center Joe Sprumont (North Huntingdon, Pa.) contributed season-high totals of seven points and seven rebounds, while freshman guard Brody Jackson (Akron, Ohio) tallied career-highs of nine points and five rebounds.
Bethany led at halftime by a score of 49-38, but exploded for 68 second half points behind 59.2-percent (29-of-49) shooting from the field. Ohio Eastern shot just 32.3-percent in the second half and 38-percent for the game.
Bethany will play its third game in as many days on Wednesday night in its home opener against Muskingum at 7:30 p.m.
