Elms 80, Anna Maria 76

PAXTON, Ma. — Elms College freshman forward Renato Lindmets (Springfield, MA) recorded his first collegiate double-double with a team-high 24 points and 14 rebounds as the Blazers placed three players in double figures en route to an 80-76 win over host Anna Maria College in Tuesday night’s non-conference men’s basketball game at the Fuller Activities Center.

The win was the third straight for Elms College, which improved to 3-1 overall. Anna Maria lost its third straight game to fall to 0-3 overall.

Senior guard Kyle Seyboth (Seekonk, MA) netted 15 points – all on 3-pointers, including three late in the first half to help the Blazers to a 32-23 lead at intermission. Anna Maria, however, used a 5-0 run early in the second half to cut the deficit to 32-28.

The Blazers would once again run their lead to double digits for much of the second half before the Amcats pulled to within four points in the final three minutes. That is as close as Anna Maria would get, however, as Lindmets and Seyboth each converted late baskets to help seal the victory.

Lindmets 24-point effort was his third 20-plus point game this season. Sophomore guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) reached double figures for the fourth straight game with a season-high 19 points and six assists for the Blazers in the victory.

Senior guard Matt O’Malley (Winchendon, MA) led all scorers with a season-high 37 points and six assists, including six 3-pointers for the Amcats in the loss.
