Simpson 70, Nebraska Wesleyan 67

Indianola, Iowa — Simpson (1-2) won its first game of the season, 70-67 over Nebraska Wesleyan (2-2) Saturday night in Indianola. The Storm led 41-34 at halftime as the Storm shot 64% (16-25) from the field. The Prairie Wolves opened the second half on a 11-2 run and took their only lead of the game (45-43) on a Tyler Ideus three-pointer with 13:34 remaining.
Simpson responed with a Mitch Keller three-point play to put the Storm back into the lead. Simpson would not lead by more than five coming down the stretch. Simpson could have put the game away at the free throw line, but missed three of five attempts from the charity stripe in the final two minutes of the contest. Nebraska Wesleyan made it 69-67 when Matt Harms hit a short jumper with 19 seconds left.

Brad Allen made only 1-2 free throws with 13 seconds remaining. The Prairie Wolves worked the clock down to two seconds before Mark Heiser took a three that bounced off the back iron, Keller rebounded the ball giving the Storm the victory.

Jason Parkinson led all scorers with 24 points (10-16 shooting). Keller had 11 points and five blocks. Ryan Hittenmiller posted 10 points. Brian Cooley led Nebraska Wesleyan with 14 points. Mitch Helman scored 12 points and had six rebounds. Harms scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Joseph Easley nabbed 11 rebounds as the Prairie Wolves outrebounded the Storm 39-32 (19-10 on the offensive glass.

These teams will be again in Lincoln Dec. 9.
