Maryville (Mo.) 98, Hendrix 89

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Head coach Matt Rogers and his squad posted their first victory of the 2004-05 season with a 98-89 win over Hendrix College (AR) at the Rhodes Classic in Memphis, TN. The Saints had five players record double digit figures in scoring and shot a season-high 53.4 percent (31-58) from the field and 64.0 percent (16-25) from behind the arc to improve to 1-4 overall.
Senior Marcus Henderson led the Saints in scoring for the fourth consecutive game with a team-high 18 points on 5-8 (.625) shooting from the field, including 4-6 (.667) from three-point range. He was also one of four starters that combined for a perfect 19-19 (1.000) from the charity stripe. Maryville as a team finished 20-27 (.741) from the free throw line.
Senior Andrew Hulbert recorded 10-10 (1.000) free throws and finished with 12 points for the game. He also added a team-high five assists. Junior Matt Regan was the only other starter besides Henderson and Hulbert to score in double figures. He chipped in with 14 points, while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
Junior Ben Hebl came of the Saints bench and netted 14 points on 5-9 (.556) shooting from the field and 4-6 (.667) from behind the arc. Sophomore Jason Rezabek added 10 points to mark his second consecutive game scoring in double figures.
Hendrix also had five players score in double figures. Matt Secrease scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the effort. Michael Bennett and Josh Simpson added 13 and 12 points respectively, while Brant Bishop and Brock Carpenter chipped in with 10 points a piece.
Rogers and his squad will be back in action on Wednesday, December 1, when they travel across the Mississippi to take on NAIA opponent McKendree College in a 7:00 pm matchup.
