The visiting Bantams opened a 14-point lead in the first half, but Lynchburg closed out the frame with a 16-6 run to trail just 28-24 at intermission. The Hornets opened the second half by scoring the first 11 points, and held a 35-28 lead at the 15:27 mark after back-to-back baskets by junior guard Matt Sweeney (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown). LC held a 40-36 advantage with 11:13 left in the game, but Trinity thundered back with a 30-9 surge to go up 17 and put the game away. Senior guard John Halas drilled four three-pointers during the run, and scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the second half.
Senior forward Ryan Pehanick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) scored a team-high 14 points for LC, hitting six of his 11 attempts from field. Junior guard Andy Albright (Hudson, OH/Hudson) scored 13 points behind three three-pointers and Sweeney tallied 12 points.
Halas hit five of his nine three-point attempts en route to posting his game-high 20 points, and Tyler Rhoten added 19 points and eight rebounds for Trinity (4-0). Craig Coupe tallied 10 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots while Patrick Hasiuk added 10 points and five assists. The Bantams hit 50 percent of their shots from the floor (26-52) and 53 percent (9-17) from three-point range.
The Hornets (2-2) host Emory University Sunday at 2 p.m. in another non-conference game.
