Louisiana College 89, Howard Payne 80

PIVEVILLE, La. — The LC men's basketball team continued to have a good start to their season on Saturday in Brownwood, Texas as they opened American Southwest Conference action with an 89-80 win over Howard Payne (0-2, 0-1). LC (2-1) used double digit scoring from four players to break a 37-37 halftime tie and move to 1-0 in ASC play.

Casey Meador led all scorers with 19 points. Chris Campbell added 15 points, while Kase Gonzales scored 13 and Josh Martin scored 10 points and had six rebounds.

LC got off to a slow start shooting the ball as they only shot 41% from the field in the first half, including only 16.7% from three-point range. In the second half the Wildcats picked their shooting up as they shot 48% from the field and 30% from three point range.

LC's defense was also a major factor as Wildcat pressure forced Howard Payne to turn the ball over 28 times. Campbell led the defensive pressure with six steals.

LC's next game will be on Monday in Alpine, Texas. The Wildcats will take on national power Sul Ross State.
