The six 3-pointers made by Phillips tied for eighth-most made in a single game in Carleton history and the .750 three-point percentage ranks fourth all-time at Carleton, with a minumum of five attempts. Carleton's 12 three-pointers made as a team also ranked in the school's all-time top 10.
Kyle Beste added 16 points, five rebounds and four assists and Dan Forkrud chipped in with 14 points for the Knights (0-2).
Chris Reaves paced Chaminade (2-3) with 20 points and Zack Whiting added 14 points and nine assists. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Silverswords, who lost to a trio of Division I teams in their own EA Sports/Maui Invitational, falling to 15th-ranked Texas 84-62, 12th-ranked Louisville 93-63 and to Brigham Young, 77-56. Ironically, both of Chaminade's victories have come over Minnesota schools, as it opened with a 67-64 victory over Winona State.
Tommy Drake and Anthony Baquero scored 10 points each for Carleton. Drake's playing time was limited to 23 minutes by foul trouble. Micah Johnson came off the bench to score nine points on 3-for-5 shooting beyond the arc.
Carleton took a 36-35 lead at halftime, but a 43-26 rebounding disparity was too much for the Knights to overcome, as the Silverswords grabbed 17 offensive caroms. Carleton committed only 11 turnovers to the hosts' 21. Carleton was 12-for-29 from three-point range but only 13-for-20 from the charity stripe.
It marked the third meeting between the two schools, with the Silverswords taking their third decision, although this year's margin was the closest in the trio of games.
