Buena Vista 90, Dordt 85

STORM LAKE, Iowa — Buena Vista University shot 66 percent (19-29) from the floor and 73 (8-11) percent from three point range in the second half to outlast Dordt College 90-85 in a non-conference men's basketball game on Saturday night in Storm Lake. Four Beaver starters reached double figures as the home school won the battle of the unbeatens.

Jordan Campbell and Eric Wiebers ignited the Buena Vista offense with key three pointers in the second frame as the pace of the game changed drastically from the first 20 minutes which saw the Beavers take a 36-33 halftime lead. Campbell poured in a team-best 20 points and nailed three of four shots from beyond the arc. Wiebers finished with 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half.

Buena Vista held the lead for the vast majority of the game, but good passing led to numerous open looks that allowed Dordt to stay in the game. The Defenders, who last led with 13:05 left in the game, cut the lead to four on numerous occasions late in the contest, but were unable to get any closer. Dordt was paced by Luke Ruter who scored 22 points, many of which came off of nifty passes by Derek Keizer who tallied nine assists. Bret Van Wyk added 16 points while Brandon Haan and Jim Brinks each had 11.

Buena Vista out-rebounded Dordt 40-33 but coughed up the ball 21 times while forcing the Defenders to turn it over 14 times. Randy Bissen yanked down a game-high 15 rebounds for the Beavers. He also scored 13 points to record his fourth consecutive double-double. Michael Cameron recorded 14 points.

The win improved 16th ranked Buena Vista to 4-0. Dordt, an NAIA school, dropped to 4-1. The Beavers next face Cornell College on Tuesday, November 30 in the Iowa Conference opener in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
