Pacific Lutheran 70, Carleton 64

TACOMA, Wash. — Pacific Lutheran went on a 10-0 run in overtime and went on to defeat Carleton College (Minn.), 70-64, in a non-conference women's basketball game tonight in Olson Auditorium.

The Lutes improved to 2-2 overall, while Carleton slipped to 0-2 on the season. The Knights are ranked seventh in the current D3hoops.com top 25 poll.

The Lutes rallied from an eight point deficit, 46-38, with eight minutes left in regulation. Kezia Long's layup tied the score at 49-all with 1:31 remaining. Long was then fouled following a Carleton turnover and made one of two free throws with 53 seconds left.

Carleton's Beth Freeman made two foul shots with 24 seconds remaining to put the Knights back in front. Kelly Turner hit a three-pointer with 10 seconds left for a 53-51 PLU lead, but the Knights forced overtime when Kristi Colbenson connected on a jump shot with 3 seconds remaining.

Both teams traded a field goal to begin the overtime. Mallory Mann was fouled on a rebound and made both free throws with 3:35 remaining to put the Lutes in front 57-55. Long scored the next seven PLU points on a jumper, two layups and a free throw for a 64-55 advantage with 1:21 left. Aundi Kustura made a free throw with 52 seconds left to end the 10 point PLU run.

Kari Christianson and Kate Krueger each made a three-point shot to bring Carleton to within five, 66-61, with 31 seconds remaining. Turner made two free throws to increase the lead to seven. Freeman hit a three-pointer to close the gap to four points, then Turner made two more foul shots for a 70-64 PLU lead with 18 seconds remaining. The Knights missed two three-point attempts and a two-point shot in the final 11 seconds as the game ended.

Turner led PLU with 16 points and 4 assists. Kadee Peterson came off the bench to contribute 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Long and Patricia Buckingham both chipped in 12 points.

Beth Freeman scored 14 points to lead Carleton. Katie Freeman scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Megan Vig also had 11 points and added 4 assists, and Kristi Colbenson finished with 10 points.
