The Quaker defense started strong, as the team did not allow a field goal for the first seven minutes of the game , as the Quakers opened a 10-3 lead with 13:09 to play in the first half. The first half lead increased to as many as 11 with 7:10 to play in the period before the Grizzlies opened an 18-5 run over the next five minutes, taking a two-point lead with 2:09 to play in the half. After the Quakers tied the score with a Short lay-up, the Grizzles answered back with a lay-up of their own, sending the visiting Franklin team into the locker room with a 34-32 lead.
The Quakers opened the second half in strong fashion, taking a seven-point lead seven minutes into the period before the Grizzlies clawed their way back, using a 14-2 run to take an eight point lead that they would not give up for the remainder of the contest. The lead grew to as many as nine when Jared Sabelhaus hit back-to-back free throws with 11 seconds to play in the game.
Short led four Quakers in double figures with 20 points while Eric Stirling had 14 points while Jordan Langston and David Guy scored 12 and 10 points respectively. Stirling pulled down a team-high five rebounds while Guy dished out five assists to lead the squad.
Franklin was led by Nick Kane, who scored 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field while Josh Finke was also in double figures with a dozen points. Jared Sabelhaus and Jon Neill each pulled down six rebounds while Neill dished out a team-high four assists.
With the loss, the Quakers fall to 2-1 on the season while Franklin improves to 2-1.
The next game for the Green and White is on Monday, November 29 when the team travels to Richmond, Indiana to face off in the "Quaker Bowl" against the Quakers of Earlham College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
