After Villa Julie jumped out to an early 18-5 lead, JHU cut into the Mustang’s lead as junior Frank Mason hit a three-pointer and made a lay-up on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to 18-10. Villa Julie countered with a 10-0 run to increase their lead to 28-10. The Blue Jays made a dent in the Mustang’s lead, but still trailed at the half, 36-24.
Johns Hopkins was never able to mount a comeback in the second half as Villa Julie extended its lead to as many as 21 points in the half. Sophomore Danny Nawrocki lead the Blue Jays in scoring for the third straight game with 17 points while collecting nine rebounds. Senior Eric Toback added 12 points and pulled eight rebounds.
The Mustangs used a trio of players scoring 18 or more points to hand Johns Hopkins its first loss of the season. Steven Segears scored 18 points including a perfect 10-for-10 mark from the free throw line. Wade Henninger lead the Mustangs with 19 points, while pulling nine rebounds. Kenny Wood added 18 in the win. Villa Julie improves to 2-0 on the year, while Johns Hopkins falls to 2-1. The Blue Jays will be in action again next Wednesday when they travel to Carnegie Mellon. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
