Minnesota State-Moorhead 101, Augsburg 36

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Dana Weibel led all scorers with 21 points, hitting 9-of-10 from the field and 3-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc, leading Minnesota State University-Moorhead to a 101-36 rout of visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference women's basketball game Tuesday night at Alex Nemzek Hall.

Twelve different Dragon players scored in the game, including 19 points from Lindsey Anderson, who came of the bench to connect on 7-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

As a team, Division II MSU-Moorhead hit 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from three-point range, and 37-of-69 (53.6 percent) from the field in improving to 3-0 on the year.

Meanwhile, Division III Augsburg, in losing its season-opening game, shot just 27.1 percent (13-of-48) from the field, hitting only 2-of-7 (28.6 percent) from three-point range.

Augsburg committed 33 turnovers in the game, allowing the Dragons to convert 35 points from those miscues. The Dragons outrebounded the Auggies by a 52-16 margin -- including 22 offensive rebounds, which the Dragons converted into 20 second-chance points.

Augsburg was led by Katie Kelsey (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.), who scored seven points. Kristina Lurken (Fr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS), Hannah Bratzel (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./CHOF HS) and Rosinta Stromquist (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had six points each.

A 29-4 run midway through the first half gave the Dragons a 39-10 lead, an advantage stretched to 54-22 at halftime. Augsburg scored just one basket over the first eight minutes of the second half, as MSU-Moorhead outscored the Auggies 27-2 in the span to take a commanding 81-24 lead with 12:10 left to play. The 65-point margin of victory was the largest lead in the game for the Dragons.

Allison Swenson had 11 points and five rebounds for the Dragons, while Lindsay Hartmann and Jessica Fesenmaier scored eight points each. Fesenmaier added five blocked shots and seven rebounds in the game.

Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Tuesday (11/30) with a 7:30 p.m. game at St. Olaf. MSU-Moorhead hosts Valley City State (N.D.) in a nonconference game on Wednesday (11/24) at 6 p.m.
