Lebanon Valley (2-1) trailed for most of the second half before a late 10-1 run gave the Dutchmen control.
Dickinson (1-2) was paced by Matt Keys, who scored a game-high 14 points. Keys shot 4-for-7 from three-point range, leading a hot long-distance-shooting Red Devil attack. Dickinson made 12 of 29 three-point attempts for the game.
Byers, who scored 30 or more points for the second game in a row, shot 4-for-9 from three-point range and was 7-for-8 at the foul line. He also handed out a game-high five assists.
Both sides got off to a slow start offensively, and neither team scored until Dickinson’s Travis Doll dropped in a fastbreak layup 2:31 into the game. Lebanon Valley missed its first five field goal attempts before senior center Brad Stigelman converted a layup 3:46 into the contest to make it a 2-2 game.
Stigelman’s bucket sparked a 13-0 LVC run, and the Dutchmen led 13-2 with 12:57 left in the half following a put-back from senior forward Steve Buzinski, who finished the game with nine points, a career-high 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
Dickinson answered by outscoring the Valley 20-3 over the next 6:52 and the Red Devils led 22-16 with 6:05 left in the half. Dickinson nailed five treys during the run.
Lebanon Valley trailed 25-23 at the half despite out-rebounding Dickinson 28-17 in the opening stanza, with Buzinski grabbing nine boards. However, the Dutchmen shot just 4-for-12 at the foul line over the opening 20 minutes. Dickinson shot just 26.5% from the floor in the first half but was good on 41.2% (7-for-17) of its three-point attempts.
The Red Devils outscored the Dutchmen 12-3 to start the second half to open up its biggest lead of the game (37-28) with 14:05 left. However, LVC ran off nine unanswered points, with Byers dropping in six, to pull even with 11:30 remaining.
Dickinson led by one (52-51) with 5:41 to go before the Dutchmen’s decisive 10-1 gave LVC a commanding eight-point advantage (61-53) with 1:57 remaining.
Brad Litchfield added 13 points for Dickinson while Mark Harrison had five assists. Junior forward Dan Hogan tore down 10 rebounds for the Dutchmen.
Lebanon Valley shot 45.7% for the game, including a sizzling 57.1% in the second half, while holding the Red Devils to 30.2% shooting. LVC out-rebounded Dickinson 49-30.
