The Presidents (1-2) and Lords (0-3) played to a 24-24 tie in the first half, but a 29-14 W&J run in the first 12 minutes of the second half gave the Presidents a 53-38 lead with 8:25 remaining.
Sophomore forward Kevin Bringman (Fairview Park, Ohio/St. Edward’s) drilled a pair of three-pointers during the run, while freshman forward Adam Morrison (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored five points.
Kenyon closed to within 11 points (60-49) with 4:11 remaining, but sophomore guard Jon Koch (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) scored two baskets in 1:05 to help W&J pull away for the victory.
Hairston added four rebounds and three assists, while sophomore forward Patrick Stewart (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) scored 11 points and grabbed six boards. Bringman netted 10 markers off the bench, while sophomore guard Brandon Studer (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh Valley) totaled 10 points and four caroms. W&J shot 48 percent (27-of-56) and held a 40-27 edge on the glass.
Matt Formato led the Lords with 12 points. Kenyon was held to 40 percent (22-of-55) shooting.
W&J hosts Capital next Tuesday at 7:00 pm at the Henry Memorial Center.
