The Spartans trailed through the opening minutes of the first half as the Bullets held a four point lead at 12-8 with 13:37 remaining in the half. The green and white proceeded to fashion an 8-0 run, giving the Spartans an 18-12 lead with 6:10 left in the half. The Spartans eventually pushed the lead to eight as they went to the locker room with a 27-19 lead.
It would take the hosts a little less than seven minutes into the second half to erase the Spartan lead as the Bullets took a 37-36 lead on a Todd Brady jumper with 13:17 left in the game. York responded with a quick 9-2 spurt capped by a Paddy Lee trey with 10:43 remaining. The Bullets answered York’s run with a 12-5 run that turned the six point Spartan lead into a four point Bullet advantage. A Brandon Bushey three pointer and two Ben Seibert lay ups gave the Spartan a 54-51 lead and the green and white would not lose that lead the remainder of the evening. York’s last field goal came with 2:38 left as Brian Singer hit a jumper in the paint to give the Spartans a 58-54 lead. The Spartans held the Bullets at bay in the last two minutes of the game by converting 11 of their final 14 free throws of the game as York starts the season 3-0 for the third time in the last four years.
York received a career-high 18 points from Seibert as the senior was 7-of-12 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Seibert also had four rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot. Bushey added 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Bushey hit 7-of-8 from the charity stripe including four straight in the last 29 seconds of the game. Singer added 11 big points and four rebounds as he played a very effective 16 minutes. Lee contributed eight points and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds while he also had eight points, three assists, and one steal. Kenny Fass had a very solid outing with nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and no turnovers in 30 minutes of play.
David Glaser had an outstanding game for the Bullets as he had the double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Glaser was 9-for-13 from the floor including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He nailed 7-of-8 from the charity stripe in addition to blocking two shots. Ryan Page was the other Bullet in double figures as he had 10 points. Erik Fromm added nine points and five rebounds to the Bullet attack.
The Spartans finished the game shooting a chilly 37.9% from the field but the green and white held a 40-31 advantage on the glass including 15 offensive rebounds. Gettysburg shot 43.1% from the floor and 36.4% from beyond the arc.
York returns to action on Saturday evening when they host Elmira in the opening round of the York Invitational. The Spartans and Soaring Eagles tip off at 6:00 pm followed by the Widener University-Methodist College semifinal game.
