The Devils led wire-to-wire after getting out to an early 11-2 lead. FDU led by as much as 18 in the first half, when they were up 38-20 with 4:31, but Stevens trimmed the Devils lead to 13 at the half, 44-31.
Stevens cut the lead to 10 on four different occasions in the second half, but each time the Devils were able to fend them off. FDU went on a 17-2 run, beginning with a layup by senior forward Jeff Hemschoot (Little Silver, NJ) with 6:55 left in the game. The run ended shortly after senior center Chris Hendershot (Vernon, NJ) made a foul shot with 2:41 to play, putting the Devils up by 25, by the score of 81-56.
Hendershot scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds. Hemschoot added 16 markers and seven boards. Senior forward Chris Trotta (Monmouth Beach, NJ) added 11 points, six assists, and four steals. Sophomore Frank Emslie (Hazlet, NJ) also scored 11 points and had six assists.
For Stevens, freshman guard Waleed Farid scored a team-high 18 points. Junior guard Jimmy Dominkewicz had 17 points.
The Devils shot a blistering 66.7 percent (12-for-18) in the second half and 50.7 percent for the game. The Devils went 26-for-33 from the foul line compared to Stevens’ 16-for-25.
FDU men’s basketball is now 16-0 all-time against Stevens.
The Devils will be back in action on Monday, November 29 as they travel to Staten Island for a 7:30 pm game.
