Elms 95, Westfield State 77

CHICOPEE, Ma. — Elms College freshman forward Renato Lindmets (Springfield, MA) poured in a team-high 23 points and the Blazers had five players reach double figures en route to a 95-77 win over Westfield State College in Tuesday night’s non-conference men’s basketball game at the Maguire Center.

Sophomore guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) had 15 points and a game-high six assists, while junior forward Lonnie Branyon III (West Haven, CT) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Blazers, who won their second straight game to improve to 2-1 overall.

Elms College shot 64.9-percent in the first half to jump out to a 52-39 lead at intermission. From there, Lindmets and junior guard James Vassar (Waterbury, CT) combined to score 23 second half points. Vassar finished with 14 points and two assists. Junior center Anthony Bernard (Tamarac, FL) also reached double figures for the Blazers as he added 11 points in 18 minutes of action.

The Owls (1-2 overall), who were coming off a grueling 116-114 triple overtime loss to host Eastern Connecticut State University in last Saturday’s championship game of the Nancy K. Suliniski ’76 Memorial Tournament, received a game-high 26 points from freshman guard Tony Collier (Colchester, VT). Sophomore guard Gavin Illangakoon (Ellington, CT) scored 15 points and sophomore guard Ricky Ogboin (Boston, MA) added 14 points as the other two Owls to reach double figures.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Tuesday, November 30 at Anna Maria College. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
