Cortland State 83, Elmira 52

ELMIRA, N.Y. — Sophomore Rod Headley and freshman Jamie Procino each scored 15 points and freshman Michael Jankiewicz chipped in with 12 points as Cortland defeated Elmira, 83-52, in a non-league contest.

The win is the 150th at Cortland for 10th-year head coach Tom Spanbauer, tying the school record. He shares the mark with Whitney T. “Pete” Corey, who posted a 150-76 record in 11 seasons during the 1950s and early 1960s.

Cortland raced out to a 25-7 lead in the first 13 minutes, 30 seconds, and led by 14 at halftime. The Red Dragons held at least a 12-point lead the entire second half and held as much as a 34-point advantage late in the contest. Cortland shot 49 percent from the floor, including 55 percent (11-of-20) from three-point range. The Red Dragons made 6-of-10 treys in the opening half.

Ten Red Dragons played at least 12 minutes in the game, and the bench provided 43 of the team's 83 points.

Procino made 5-of-6 shots off the bench, including 2-of-3 three-pointers. Headley made 6-of-11 shots and Jankiewicz 5-of-9. Junior Brian Kirchhoff finished with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds. Senior Justin O'Garrow added seven points and three steals.

Albert Davis and Micah Owens led Elmira with nine points each. Davis also blocked four shots, while Owens grabbed eight rebounds.
