St. Davids, PA (November 23, 2004) - The Ursinus College Bears (2-1) handed Eastern University (1-2) their second loss of the season in their home opener Tuesday night, 94-61.
The Bears jumped out to a commanding 12-point lead just over five minutes into the game and never relinquished that margin for the entire game. Ursinus shot 61.5% from the floor in the first half, while Eastern could only muster 28% from the field.
The second half proved to be more of the same and the Bears' offense was unstoppable hammering out another 65% shooting effort. Ursinus had three players in double-digit scoring led by point-guard Mike McGarvey finishing with 19 points including four tres and seven assists. Brian McEvily poured in 16 points to go with 4 rebounds, while Bret Jenkins finished the night with 16 points.
Eastern was led in scoring by junior forward Brent Voorhees (Grandville, MI/Tri-Unity Christian) who knocked down 17 points including three three-pointers and hit 4 of 6 from the free throw line. Voorhees also added five rebounds and three assists. Senior guard, Ryan Tozer (Norwood, Pa/Friends Central) worked hard for his eight points and led the team in rebounds with six boards, while junior forward Chris McMonagle added five points, four rebounds and four steals.
Eastern will host NJAC power Rowan University on Monday night, November 29th at 8pm for their next game.
