Worcester Polytech 97, Bridgewater State 81

Bridgewater, MA - WPI Defeats Bridgewater State, 97-81 — In non-conference men’s basketball action this evening from the Tinsley Center, the visiting Engineers of WPI, behind an impressive offensive shooting display, defeated the Bears of Bridgewater State College, 97-81.

Sophomore guard Ryan Cain (Webster, MA) led the way for WPI with 26 points on 10 of 15 shooting. Cain, who was one of three Engineers to put up 20 points on the evening, also added six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Junior guard Mike Prestileo (South Windsor, CT) added 22 points for WPI as he connected on 5 of 8 three pointers. Sophomore center Scott Misiaszek (Old Lyme, CT) scored 20 points on 10 for 14 shooting and also finished with a double-double as he pulled down 10 rebounds.

WPI led by 12 points at the half, and despite seeing that lead shrink to one point in the second half, were able to pull away thanks in large part to an impressive shooting display. As a team, the Engineers shot 55% from the floor and a lights out 61% in the second stanza. They also connected on 9 of 16 from behind the arc.

BSC’s senior tandem of Peter Santos (Fairhaven, MA) and Brian Adamczyk (Chicopee, MA) played well in the loss as they led a second half surge that saw the Bears pull to within one point at 71-70. Santos finished with 19 points, 11 of those coming in the second half. He also added six rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Adamczyk, who scored all 10 of his points in the second stanza, was 4-for-6 from the floor with three rebounds and four assists.

Bridgewater is home next Tuesday, November 30th, as they play host to Southeastern Massachusetts rival UMass-Dartmouth. The Engineers will look to make it four wins in a row next Tuesday as they host the Lasers of Lasell College.
