Mayville State 84, Concordia-Moorhead 82

MOORHEAD, Minn. — For 38:58 of the 40 minutes in the game, Concordia looked well on their way to claiming their fourth straight victory over Mayville State. Unfortunately for the Cobbers, the final score is what counts and the Comets were able to wrestle the outcome away from Concordia in the final 1:02 and win 84-82.

The Cobbers led by as many as seven points with under nine minutes to go, but were outscored 22-13 in the final eight minutes of play and lost their 2004-05 season-opener. Mayville State ups their record to 3-1 on the year. In 2003-04 they posted a total of one win.

Keith Eckhoff carried the scoring load for the Cobbers. He was 4-for-6 from 3-point range and 10-for-14 from the floor and finished with a career-high 33 points. He also had a game-high seven rebounds. He was one of five different Cobber players that scored in double figures. Jason Miller added 13 points, freshman Luke Linz had 11 in his college debut and Soren Nelson and Ryan Templeton each scored 10 points.

Alexandro Anthis scored 22 points and John Feggo IV added 16 to lead the Comets.

Concordia shot 50.0% (27-for-54) from the floor, 50% (8-for-16) from 3-point range but only 66.7% (20-for-30) from the free throw line. Mayville State shot 48.1% (26-for-54) from the floor, but a game-deciding 82.1% (23-for-28 from the free throw line. The Comets also had a decided 20-10 edge in second chance points.

The Cobbers will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to play in the Colorado College Tournament over the weekend. Concordia will play host Colorado College on Friday, November 26 at 6:00pm (MST) and then play at either 1:00pm (MST) or 3:00pm (MST) on Saturday.
