University of New England 86, Rivier 71

NASHUA, N.H. — Junior point guard Mark Oliver (Gloucester, Mass.) had 14 points, 10 rebounds and eights assists as the University of New England captured the Rivier College Invitational with an 86-71 win over the host school Sunday afternoon.

Oliver, who was one of five UNE players reaching double figures in scoring, was chosen tournament MVP.

The Nor'easters (2-0) got off to a fast start for the second consecutive day, racing to a 12-3 lead in the early stages. UNE did not trail its opponent either game of the tourney. The Nor'easters routed Bard College 94-51 on Saturday to advance to the championship game.

Junior Matt McManus (Cumberland, R.I.) led all UNE players with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, earning him a spot on the all-tourney team.

Senior Randall Thomas (Wilmington, N.C.) registered a career-high 14 points, while classmate Nyaten Gaye (Providence, R.I.) and junior Mark Regis (Monroe, N.H.) combined for 23 points.

John McMahon scored 24 points and John McAllen 21 for Rivier, which defeated Johnson State College on Saturday to reach the title game.
