Montclair State (2-0 overall) raced out to a 10-0 lead and never trailed in taking a 51-24 halftime advantage. Junior guard Rashad Butler (Nassau, Bahamas) tallied 13 points and seven rebounds for the Red Hawks, while freshman guard Anthony Larkin (Passaic, NJ) recorded 12 points and shot 4-of-5 from three-point range. Freshman guard Omar Colon (Union City, NJ) added 11 points for Montclair, which got a game-high nine rebounds from sophomore center Paul Taylor (Carteret, NJ). Sophomore center Steve McNamara (Oak Ridge, NJ) and freshman guard Josh Davidson (Ocean City, NJ) paced the visiting Cyclones (0-2) with 10 points apiece, with McNamara and junior forward Omar Davis (Newark, NJ) contributing eight rebounds each and Davis also recording two blocks.
MSU returns to action Tuesday night at The College of Staten Island, while Centenary visits Lehman (NY) tomorrow evening.
