Wilmington 85, Anderson 73

WILMINGTON, Ohio — The Wilmington College Quakers won their second consecutive game to start the 2003-04 season, tying with the 1999-00 team for the best start in the last quarter century for the Green and White.

Anderson jumped out to an early lead in the game and led by as many as six with 10:34 to play in the first half before the hosts opened a 12-2 run, taking a six point lead two minutes later. The Quakers kept adding to their lead, as Josh Rohrbacher put a tip in with two seconds left before halftime, giving the Quakers a 16-point lead heading into the locker room.

Anderson came out firing in the second half, using a 16-3 run over the first six minutes of the second half, cutting the deficit to three before tying the game at 55 five minutes later. The Ravens and Quakers were tied at 59 with 11:04 to play in the game before the Quakers ran off six straight points on back-to-back three-point baskets by freshman Nick Berter, giving the hosts a lead they would not give up for the remainder of the contest. The second half lead grew to as many as 13 before having it cut to 12 by the final buzzer, giving the Quakers the 85-73 victory.

Eric Stirling and Deon Short each scored a team-high 17 points while Berter added a career-high 15 points in the win. Rohrbacher added 10 while Zach Broermann was just off of the double figure pace with nine. Stirling, Rohrbacher and Berter each pulled down four rebounds while Broermann dished out a game-high five assists.

Anderson was led by J.D. Clampitt who scored a game-high 20 points while Andy Warren and Ian Lafferty scored 14 and 11 points respectively. Cory Lyons pulled down eight rebounds as the Ravens out-rebounded the Quakers 37-27 in the contest.

With the win the Quakers improve to 2-0 on the season, doubling the amount of wins the team had in 2003-04. Anderson falls to 0-2 overall.

The next game for the Quakers is on Tuesay, November 23 when the team plays host to the Grizzlies of Franklin College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
