BOSTON — Colby (1-0) shot a blazing 78 percent from the field in the second half to expand on a 35-30 halftime lead on its way to a 95-64 win over Widener (0-1) Saturday night in the opening round of the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament.
The Pioneers will take on SUNY-Purchase Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the consolation game.
With the score favoring Colby at 60-50 with 10:26 left in the game, Colby went on a 13-0 run to take a 73-50 lead. Widener would get no closer than 20 points the rest of the way.
Senior guard Matt Sheaffer scored a team-high 23 points while sophomore guard Essien Ford scored 21 as the Pioneers were outrebounded 46-26.
