Benedictine (2-0) got a game-high 28 points from Matt Harrison in the victory, which marked the second contest of a season-opening six-game road trip.
Lake Forest led by a 16-12 count in the opening moments of the game before the two teams went on to trade the lead back and forth. Harrison hit a trey with just more than five minutes left in the first half to give Benedictine a 27-24 lead, and the Eagles led by as many as four points on two occasions before eventually settling for a 34-32 advantage at the break. Harrison scored 13 points in the first half.
The Eagles seemed to break open the close-knit affair in the second half, using a 12-4 run to break a 36-36 tie and take a 48-40 lead, their largest of the game. Will Crawford had the last four points in that run.
Benedictine led by six (62-56) with 4:30 left in the game, but Lake Forest (0-2) put up a final charge with a quick 7-0 run to take its final lead at 63-62 with just more than three minutes remaining. Harrison came to the rescue again, though, knocking down his sixth and final 3-pointer of the night to put the Eagles back ahead (65-63) to stay. He and Mike Shimkus each buried a pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds of the game to put away the win.
Harrison made 9-of-14 shots from the field, including 6-of-9 from long range, in his game-high effort. For the second straight night, Benedictine put four players in double figures in scoring - Crawford added 11 off the bench while Marcus Jackson and Zach Ramey added 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Eric McDonald led Lake Forest with 18 points and 11 boards, while Greg Klos added 17 points.
Benedictine will be off for a week before facing Division I foe Loyola (Ill.) University on the road on Saturday, November 27.
