Johns Hopkins 77, Keystone 66

BALTIMORE, MD — Sophomore Danny Nawrocki posted his second consecutive double-double, with 16 points and 12 rebounds and was named the Blue Jay Invitational Most Valuable player in leading the Johns Hopkins men’s basketball team to its third consecutive Blue Jay Invitational title with a 77-66 victory over Keystone in the title game.



The Blue Jays used an 8-0 run early in the second half to increase their lead to 46-36. The run was highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers by junior Bobby Sharafeddin and senior Eric Toback. Keystone never cut the deficeit to less than eight in the final 15:47 and Hopkins led by as many as 16 on three different occasions down the stretch.



Sharaffedin was named to the All Tournament Team as he posted a career-high 16 points, the second consecutive night he has posted a career high in points. Toback posted 15 points and nine rebounds in the win for JHU. Jajaun Davis led the Giants with 21 points as he was named to the All Tournament Team. Teammate Robert Cash added 13 points and eight rebounds and also earned a spot on the All Tournament Team.


The Blue Jays tied a school record, and set the Blue Jay Invitational mark, with 31 attempted three-pointers. JHU was 7-for-11 from behind the arc in the second half as they pulled away from the Giants. Sharafeddin was three of six from three point land in the second half.



In the consolation game, Neumann used a 16-5 run in the first half to pull away from Frostburg and cruised to an 81-64 victory. Neumann had a lead of 21-10 after the run and never looked back. The Knights extended their lead to 16 points as the first half ended and took a 42-26 lead into halftime.



In the second half, the Bobcats never cut the Knights lead bellow 11 points, as Neumann maintained control thoughout. Derhan Patrick led the Knights in scoring with 28 points and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Kyle Bixler posted a team-high 12 rebounds while collecting nine points and Ronnie Fields picked up 14 points and four rebounds in the win for the Knights. Daniel Ryley led the Bobcats in scoring with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, and was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Brian Owen picked up 10 points in the loss for Frostburg.



With the win, Johns Hopkins improves to 2-0 on the young season. The Blue Jays will travel to Villa Julie for a non-league showdown Tuesday at 7pm.
