Although Hanover led the entire game, the Saints started off strong and stayed within three points of the Panthers in the first five minutes. Hanover would start to build their lead with approximately 13 minutes remaining to play in the half, but Maryville would eventually cut that lead back down to three points going into halftime, after trailing by as many as 13 points.
The Saints would stay with the Panthers for the first nine minutes of the second half, but Hanover would go on a 10-0 run to increase their margin to 13 points with 6:13 remaining on the clock. The Panthers' largest margin would get to 17, as Maryville struggled to chip away at their lead.
Defensively the Saints played hard, forcing 16 turnovers. It was rebounding [Hanover outrebounded Maryville 35-20] and the Panthers' .596 percent (34-57) shooting from the field, including .500 (8-16) from behind the arc that hurt Maryville in the end.
Senior Marcus Henderson led Maryville's offensive effort with 18 points. He shot 5-9 (.556) from behind the arc and was 3-3 (1.000) from the charity stripe. Junior Matt Regan was the only other player to score in double figures. He added 13 points, while shooting 4-6 (.667) from the field, including 1-1 (1.000) from three-point range and 4-5 (.800) from the free throw line.
Junior Ryan Klein, senior Andrew Hulbert and freshman Casey Holland also played well for Maryville. Klein had nine points and three rebounds, while Hulbert added eight points and a team-high four assists. Holland finished with six points and a team-high four rebounds off the glass.
Hanover was led by Matt Moore and Tommy Dennis with 20 and 18 points respectively. Dennis and teammate Nate Minyard each tallied a game-high six assists, while Dennis and teammate Ben Lye each grabbed a game-high five rebounds.
Moore was named the Most Valuable Player of the two-day Classic, while Minyard was tabbed the top defensive player. Joining the two on the All-Classic Team were Dennis, Henderson, Klein and Christian Basilio from Webster University and Joey Searle from Transylvania University (KY).
Head coach Matt Rogers and his squad will be back in action on the road this Tuesday, November 23, when they travel to Kennesaw, GA, to take on the NCAA Division II defending National Champions, Kennesaw State University in a 7:00 pm matchup.
