KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women’s basketball team (1-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened its 2004-05 season on Saturday, November 20 with a 74-46 trouncing of Monmouth College (0-1) at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. The Lady Reds led by as much as 21 points in the first half, 33-12, at 5:05, and opened up a 23-point margin in the second half. 54-31, at 10:01. The lead ballooned to as much as 31 points, 74-43, at 2:40 with the final margin at 28 points. Carthage shot 44 percent (31-70), while the Fighting Scots shot just 30 percent (17-56). Carthage’s Lisa Gartelos scored a game-high 17 points off the bench along with 10 rebounds. Tiffany McCrackin had 16 points, five rebounds and eight assists, while Jenny Wuest added 15 points and seven boards. Ashley Yeast topped Monmouth with 12 points and 10 rebounds. On Tuesday, November 23, Carthage travels to Lake Forest, Ill., to take on Lake Forest College at the Sports Center (6 p.m.).
