Bridgewater State 72, Springfield 64

Bridgewater, MA: Domino’s Men’s Basketball Tip-Off Classic - BSC Captures Tip-Off Tournament Title With 72-64 Win Over Springfield — Senior Matt Badiali (Raynham, MA) took home tournament MVP honors for the Bridgewater State Men’s Basketball Team as they defeated the Pride of Springfield College, 72-64, in the championship game of the Domino’s Men’s Basketball Tip-Off Classic.

Badiali led the Bears with 21 points, adding to the 18 he scored in yesterday’s 92-87 victory over Elms College. Fellow senior Chris Hayes (Weymouth, MA) was an All-Tournament Team selection as well, as he chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds today, and nine points and eight rebounds yesterday.

Freshman Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) added 10 points for the Bears. Senior center Tim Ryan (Carver, MA) played a key role in Bridgewater’s outstanding second half as the Bears overcame a six-point halftime deficit. Ryan tallied 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the field, and added three rebounds and three assists. Senior Peter Santos (Fairhaven, MA) notched seven points and 11 rebounds, while adding six assists for Bridgewater.

Springfield College juniors Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, MA) and Mike DeCesar (Acton, MA) took home All-Tournament Team honors for the Pride. Yvon led all scorers with a 24 point effort, which came on the heels of an outstanding 30-point performance in the Pride’s 72-63 win over Norwich on Friday night. DeCesar added eight points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Bridgewater State returns to action on Tuesday as they host the Engineers of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Springfield will travel to Tufts University on Tuesday to take on the Jumbos. Both games begin at 7 o’clock.
