Scranton 75, Washington College 42

ELIZABETHTOWN, Penn. — The University of Scranton jumped out to a 37-20 lead en route to a 75-42 win over Washington College this evening in the first round of the Blue Jay Classic at Elizabethtown College. The game was the season opener for both teams. Scranton will play the winner of tonight's second game, between the host Blue Jays and Pennsylvania College of Technology, in tomorrow's championship game at 3:00 p.m.

Scranton got a game-high 16 points each from Darren Cannon and Brian O'Donnell. O'Donnell added game highs of 13 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Mike McGowan contributed 14 points for the Royals in the win.

Senior guard Andrew Gentile (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) tossed in a team-high 12 points for the Shoremen, while junior forward Jonathan Webb (Milford, DE/Milford) added 10. Senior guard/forward John "China" Alexander (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) pulled down a team-best seven boards.

Scranton shot 50% from the field in the game, while Washington shot just 28%. The Royals also maintained a 41-27 edge in rebounding and forced 20 Shoreman turnovers.

Washington will play the loser of tonight's Elizabethtown-Penn College game in tomorrow's consolation game at 1:00 p.m.
