With the loss, the Blazers (0-1 overall) will play in Saturday afternoon’s 1:00 p.m. consolation game against Keystone College, who fell to Western Connecticut State University 71-48 in Friday night’s other first round game.
Kasala scored 12 of her points in the opening half, for the Blazers.
The first half featured several lead changes before Vassar used an 11-4 run in the final five minutes to take a 27-20 lead at intermission.
The Brewers (1-0 overall) then scored the first seven points of the second half to extend their lead to 34-20.
The Blazers were able to close with 45-38 with six minutes remaining, but Vassar closed with an 8-2 run to seal the victory.
Senior center Samantha Hebert (Westbrook, ME) added eight points and eight rebounds for the Blazers. Junior forward Meredith McGair (Cranston, RI) had 12 points and junior guard Natalie Serkowski (Clinton Corners, NY) added 10 for the Brewers in the victory.
