HARTFORD, Conn., 11/19/2004 — Sophomore forward Robert Taylor III (Dorchester Center, Mass.) scored a game-high 20 points, sinking seven out of 11 shots from the field and six of seven from the foul line, to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 91-66 win over the visiting Ursinus College Bearsin the first game of the season opening Trinity College Tip-Off Classic this evening at Ray Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity, ranked No. 6 in the nation, will face Rhode Island College in its second game of the three, team Classic on Sun., Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. The Bears will play Rhode Island College tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Trinity.
Trinity broke open a five-point game after intermission with 54 points in the second half to win going away. Bantam senior co-captain guard John Halas (White Plains, N.Y.) scored 14 points of his 17 points after the break and sophomore guard Patrick Hasiuk (Enfield, Conn.) poured all 10 of his points off the bench in the second half. Trinity shot 59.4 percent from the field and made five out of nine three-point shots in the second 20 minutes.
Bantam junior forward Tyler Rhoten (Ridgewood, N.J.) added 13 points and a game-high 10 boards, while senior center Craig Coupe (Niskayuna, N.J.) tallied 12 points and seven rebounds. Hasiuk also led Trinity with six assists.
Junior guard Brian McEvily (Interlaken, N.J.) scored 14 of his team-high 16 points to lead all first half scorers for the Bears, while sophomore center Will Furey (Bear, N.J.) added 12 points and five assists. Sophomore forward Matt Fabian (Pottstown, Pa.) grabbed a team-high eight boards for Ursinus.
