ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Hartwick falls in season opener against Muhlenberg, 79-53

(Green leads Hawks with 14 points)

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore center Jeff Stewart (George School/Croydon, Pa.) scored a game-high 20 points to lead host Muhlenberg College to a 79-53 victory over the Hartwick College men’s basketball team in the second game of the Scotty Wood Tournament on Friday.
Stewart made 10 of 18 field goals and blocked three shots for the Mules (1-0), who took a 37-22 lead into halftime.
Hartwick (0-1) received 14 points and eight rebounds from freshman forward Sterling Green (Burlington Township/Burlington Township, N.J.). Freshman guard Greg Betancourt (Northern Highlands/Allendale, N.J.) had 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting, and freshman swingman Eddie McAdoo (LaSalle Institute/Troy, N.Y.) had 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
Freshman forward James Watkins (Wilbraham and Monson/Manchester, Conn.) had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Hawks.
Hartwick will meet Western New England College in the consolation game at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Golden Bears lost in Friday’s opener to Marymount University, 58-54.
