Texas Lutheran 75, Kalamazoo 60

WHEATON, Ill. — The Texas Lutheran men's basketball team opened its 2004-05 season with a convincing 75-60 win over Kalamazoo College (Mich.) in the opening game of the Wheaton College Lee Pfund Classic in Wheaton, Ill.

The Bulldogs (1-0) advanced to the championship game of the Lee Pfund Classic and will play either MacMurray (Ill.) or host Wheaton College. The championship game will tip off at 8 p.m. central.

Texas Lutheran received 22 points and seven rebounds from senior post Tommy Stolhandske. Stolhandske, the Preseason ASC West Player of the Year, hit eight of his 10 field goal attempts. Stolhandske was the ASC West Co-Player of the Year in 2003-04.

Junior wing Will Hudson added 14 points and three assists. Jerrod Carpenter and Nik Summers each scored 11.

The Bulldogs shot 57.8 percent from the field (58.3 in the first half, 57.1 in the second). TLU hit three of its four three-point attempts in the first half as the team opened a 13-point lead (40-27) at the break.

Kalamazoo (0-1) was led by Tony Wichmann's 20 points and Ryan Konwinski's 18.
