With less than 30 seconds remaining, JHU looked to inbound the ball under the Bobcats’ basket after Frostburg had cut the Blue Jays led to two, at 76-74. Junior Frank Mason received the ball and was quickly double-teamed and forced out of bounds. Frostburg was not able to capitalize, as Brian Owen was called for a traveling violation with six seconds remaining. The Blue Jays, however, turned the ball back over to Frostburg as they could not inbound the ball. Jama Peterson capitalized by hitting a running jumper as time expired to send the game to overtime.
In overtime the Bobcats jumped out to an 81-80 lead halfway into the extra frame. The Blue Jays answered with the final six points of the game to seal the victory. Nawrocki made a lay-up to put the Blue Jays ahead 82-81 with 2:19 remaining. The trio of Nawrocki, Mason and Toback converted on four of six free throw attenots down the stretch to seal up the win.
The Bobcats led at the half, 40-33, but the Blue Jays used a 10-2 run early in the second half to take the lead 46-44. The Blue Jays led for most of the remainder of the second half, but never were able to close out the game. Nawrocki finished with a team-high 25 points, and collected 12 rebounds for a double-double. Toback also posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Mason nearly matched the feat with 14 rebounds and nine points. Daniel Ryley led the Bobcats with six points, while three players collected seven rebounds.
In the first game of the Blue Jay Invitational, Keystone defeated Neumann, 71-61 to advance to the finals. Jajuan Davis picked up 19 points in the win, as he was 5-10 from behind the three-point line. Harry Brown collected a team-high 13 rebounds in addition to scoring seven points.
Neumann and Frostburg will square off at 6 pm in the consolation game of the Blue Jay Invitational. The finals between Keystone and Johns Hopkins will take place at 8 pm.
