Carnegie Mellon had a lead of seven slip away from them in the first half as Grove City cut the lead to two at 26-24 at the half. The Wolverines of Grove City opened the second half on 10-4 run to take the lead for the first time since half way through the first half.
The second half was a battle back in forth as the lead changed hands 12 times until Grove City took the lead for good at 53-52 with 6:30 to play. The Wolverines raddled off seven straight points to take the lead and never looked back as the Tartans would only pull with in four points down the stretch.
The Tartans were led by Jason Walters (Providence, RI/Country Day) with 19 points. Senior Michael Divens (Trafford, PA/Penn Trafford) cashed in with 15 and senior Eliot Goren (Silver Spring, MD/Bullis School) add 12 points off the bench.
Carnegie Mellon will travel to Meadville, PA and the campus of Allegheny College Saturday, November 20 to take on Washington & Jefferson College in the second night of the West Penn Classic for a 6:00pm tip.
