Alvernia 92, Rutgers-Camden 52

READING, Pa. — Freshman forward Damon Bogan recorded a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double in his first collegiate game and head coach Mike Miller picked up his first coaching win as Alvernia College topped Rutgers-Camden, 92-52, in opening-day action of the 7th Annual Dr. Kleppinger Tip-Off Tournament Friday evening at the Physical Education Center.
The Crusaders (1-0) put five players in double figures led by Bogan. Junior guard Mike Brock tallied 17 points on the strength of a 5-for-8 3-point effort. Lamar Brickus scored 13, reserve forward Chris Talley scored 12 points, and junior forward Zach Straining added 11. The Raptors (0-1) had two players reach double-figures led by senior guard Tyrone Rucker with 17 and Ryan Evans scored 10.
Bogan opened the scoring for Alvernia and after RCU senior Paul Smith (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) scored for an early 2-all tie, Straining hit a layup and the Crusaders never trailed. Brock nailed his third 3 of the night at the 6:43 mark of the first pushing the Alvernia lead into double-digits at 27-15. The first-half lead swelled to as many as 24 on a pair of Bogan free throws with 2:03 left before the break, and Straining dropped in a layup to close the first-half scoring that put the Crusaders up 43-19 heading to the locker room.
Brock hit back-to-back 3s four minutes into the second half that put Alvernia up 55-32 and the Crusaders cruised to a big win in their season opener.
