Dickinson (3-15, 2-9 CC) took a 71-67 lead on a lay-up by Travis Doll with 46 seconds remaining, but Washington senior forward David Horvath drained a three-pointer 10 seconds later to make it 71-70. Sophomore guard Travis Moore stole the ball out of the Dickinson backcourt on the next Red Devil possession and fed junior guard Andrew Gentile for a lay-up with nine seconds to go to put Washington ahead, 72-71. Dickinson's Brad Litchfield drove the length of the floor and canned a short jumper with one second to go to put the Red Devils back in front with one second left. After a time-out, Stem drew a foul before the ball was inbounded and converted both ends of a one-and-one to give the Shoremen (7-11, 4-7) the win.
The Shoremen jumped out to a 16-3 lead to open the game and held a 38-31 advantage at the half. The Red Devils rallied to tie the score three times in the second half before taking their first lead of the game with 3:01 remaining on a pair of free throws by Jimmy Martelli. Their four-point lead following Doll's lay-up with 46 seconds left was their biggest lead of the game.
Washington shot 50% in the first half, but cooled down to 38% shooting in the second. Dickinson shot just 32% in the opening half, but shot 60% in the second half.
Gentile led the Shoremen with a team-high 19 points in the win on seven-of-nine shooting from the field. Sophomore forward Jonathan Webb contributed 17 points, a game-high nine rebounds, and a team-high five assists. Horvath and Stem each finished with 10 points. Moore swiped a game-high four steals in 15 minutes off the bench.
Litchfield led the Red Devils with game highs of 25 points and nine rebounds. Matt Keys added 15 points and four assists, while Jon Skvarka contributed 12 points and six rebounds. Martelli dished out a game-high six assists.
