Senior Pat McKenzie had 16 points, six rebounds, six assists and was 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Freshman Matt Ohme had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists, while senior Peter Gillette contributed 12 points on four three-point baskets. SJU’s leading scorer sophomore Paul Henrichs had seven points, but collected nine rebounds.
The Johnnies won the rebounding battle 44-31 over the Auggies, but committed 21 turnovers in the game. SJU was 27-of-55 (49.1 percent) from the field and connected on 11-of-27 (40.7 percent) three-point field goals. The Johnnies led 42-30 at halftime.
Augsburg was led by junior Lucas Olson-Patterson with 11 points and six rebounds. Senior Larry Burgess and sophomore Jonathan Gholson each had nine points.
The Auggies shot 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the field and made only 4-of-16 (25.0 percent) from behind the three-point line.
SJU improves to 8-11 overall and 6-8 in the MIAC. Augsburg falls to 6-13 overall and 3-11 in the MIAC. The Johnnies are currently in seventh place, one-half game behind St. Thomas for the final MIAC playoff spot, with six games remaining.
