WPI sophomore guard Mike Prestileo poured in 30 points as the Engineers snapped a 15-game losing streak to SC dating back to 1997. The Engineers (16-2, 6-0 NEWMAC), who extended their school-record winning streak to 12 games, also got 13 points and five boards from senior forward Ian Bonzani. WPI, which leads Division III in three-point percentage (44.4), hit 8-of-16 from beyond the arc and shot 78.9 percent overall (15-19 FG) in the second half. Prestileo hit 6-of-11 from three-point range.
For the Pride (5-13, 1-5 NEWMAC), junior guard Jason O’Tash had a season-high 10 points.
After a three-pointer by SC sophomore guard Derek Yvon cut the Engineers’ lead to 45-40 with 10:31 to play, WPI responded with a 10-4 run over the next 2:49 to take a 55-44 lead with 7:42 left. Prestileo had two three-pointers in the run. Aponte got the Pride back within eight (55-47) with a three-point play, but WPI scored seven-straight points, capped by a Prestileo three-pointer with 4:58 left, to give the visitors a 64-47 lead.
