Ben Van Thorre scored 31 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists to lead Macalester (12-6, 11-2 MIAC) to its seventh straight victory, an 86-75 win over Concordia-Moorhead Saturday (Jan. 31) in St. Paul.
Van Thorre increases his career scoring total at Macalester to 1,538 points - just two short of tying the school's all-time mark of 1,540 set by Patrick Russell '03 last season.
Erik Jackson added 16 points and four assists, while Chris Assel contributed 12 points for the Scots, who have won 11 of the past 12 games to remain a game behind Gustavus in the race to the conference title.
Concordia (12-6, 9-5 MIAC) had four players reach double figures in scoring: Keith Eckhoff with 16 off the bench, Soren Nelson with 15, Josh Downey with 14 and Chris Wermerson with 10. Downey also had eight rebounds.
The score was deadlocked at 40-40 at halftime, with the Cobbers using a 19-for-20 free throw shooting performance to account for nearly half of their first half points. The Scots committed just two turnovers in the second half and out-scored the guests 46-35 in the stanza.
Concordia had its final lead at 65-64 with 6:49 left in the game before Macalester used a 12-3 run to go up 76-68 with just 3:29 remaining. Adam Denny had five points, an assist and a steal to spark the decisive rally. The Cobbers cut the lead to four at 76-72 with 2:23 to go, but the Scots out-scored the visitors 10-3 the rest of the way.
On Monday, the Scots host Carleton while the Cobbers are at home to Bethel.
