Catholic 67, Gallaudet 52

WASHINGTON — William Morley surpassed 1,500 career points, scoring a game-high 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, to help Catholic defeat Gallaudet, 67-52, Saturday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

The senior was 5-of-10 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. His jumper with 2:14 left in the first half made him the 10th player in school history to surpass the 1,500-career point mark.

The pesky Bison gave the Cardinals all they could handle in the first half as Brendan Stern's three-pointer gave Gallaudet a 23-22 lead with 4:10 in the first half. Catholic (14-5, 6-2 CAC) used an 11-2 run to close the period and lead 34-25 at the break.

After the Bison used a 6-0 run early in the second to get within 36-31, junior Tim Burke nailed his only bucket of the game, a three-pointer, to help CUA ignite a run of their own.

Shane Sowden's bucket in the paint gave the Cardinals a 60-43 lead before Gallaudet would make things interesting. David Farias' trey got the Bison within 60-50 with 2:28 left in the game.

Robert Haney, the CAC's leading scorer and rebounder, poured in 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Gallaudet (7-12, 1-7 CAC).

Sophomore Matt Tanner chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. It was the second straight double-double for Morley and his third on the season.
