King's 77, Delaware Valley 73

Doylestown, Pa. — King’s College went on a pair of runs in the second half as the Monarchs posted a 77-73 victory over host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.
Freshmen Mike Zupa and Mike Thornton hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the final minute of the first half to give the Aggies (3-15, 2-6) a 38-31 lead at halftime against the co-leaders of the conference.
King’s (15-3, 6-1) responded with an 18-4 run to start the second half to take the lead for good, 49-42, with 14:04 to go. Marty O’Hara scored six points while Dannie Evans and Jamar Stokes added five points apiece in the run.
Delaware Valley fought back to trail by just three, 51-48, two minutes later as Thornton hit another trey. However, the Monarchs countered with a 13-2 spurt to pull away once again.
King’s increased the lead to 15, 68-53, before the Aggies slowly crept back into the contest. They pulled to within three, 73-70, with 22 seconds to go as freshman Isaiah Pinckney connected on a 3-pointer. Jamar Stokes was fouled a second later and hit both foul shots for a 75-70 advantage.
With 13 seconds to go, Pinckney was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer, and he converted all three free throws to make it a two-point ballgame. Delaware Valley looked to foul on the inbounds but nothing was called. King’s broke free and Jonathan Veet hit a layup in the final seconds to ice the contest.
Thornton led all scorers with 19 points. Junior Erik Tegethoff finished with 17 points while Pinckney had 11. Freshman Javon Alston added eight points, eight rebounds and five assists in the loss.
Stokes’ 16 points paced the Monarchs. O’Hora and Brian Horgan notched 13 points apiece while Britt Moore and Evans added 12 and 10 respectively.
