BALANCED VIKINGS BEAT MILLIKIN 88-59
A balanced scoring attack that saw six players score in double figures and a 16-2 run early in the second half were the keys as Augustana defeated Millikin 88-59 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin action on Saturday night at the Roy J. Carver PE Center. Jay McAdams-Thornton (Moline HS, Moline, IL) came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 16 points as the Viking reserves scored 54 points. Joining McAdams-Thornton in double digits were Joe Baumann (Carmel HS, Mundelein, IL) with 12, Travis Hoyt (Moline HS, Moline, IL) with 11 and Drew Carstens (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, IL), Jordan Watson (Galesburg HS, Galesburg, IL) and Bill Goehrke (Hoffman Estates HS, South Barrington, IL) each contributed 10. Early in the second half Augustana led just 43-41 with 17:33 left to play in the game. A 16-2 run that was sparked by six points from Hoyt made it 59-43 with 13:01 remaining and the game was never in doubt after that. The lead would grow as big as 30 (81-51 at 4:03) before ending with a final margin of 29. The Vikings manhandled the Big Blue on the boards by a margin of 44-25 with Hoyt leading the way with eight. Another statistic of note was the fact that Augustana picked up 22 assists on 33 baskets. The Vikings shot .524 (33-63) from the field and .810 (17-21) from the free throw line. Korte Long and Jason Fisher led Millikin in scoring with 10 points each. Augustana moved to 12-7 overall and 6-2 in the CCIW and picked up its fifth consecutive win. Millikin fell to 11-7 and 3-4 in the league.
